Blue Supreme review: craft beer & nosh

Craft beer bars and microbreweries have proliferated through Hong Kong in recent years, and this is certainly a good thing. But we’ve begun to notice that, whichever bar we pitch up in, a very similar list of eight or so IPAs is available, along with the odd lager or amber ale. Thankfully we came across Blue Supreme Beer Purveyors. On Upper Lascar Row, over the way from chic Man Mo Café and in the same neighbourhood as über-hip Tai Ping Shan Street, Blue Supreme is a shot in the arm for Hong Kong’s beer aficionados. They specialise in bottle conditioned beers, where the secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle, improving flavour and mouthfeel. The restaurant boasts a fridge packed with Belgian beers, something that we at WOM are big fans of. We sampled a bottle of Noir de Dottignies, a rich, dark ale, nearly black in colour with a caramel flavour and a smooth creamy head. A real treat that you'll have trouble finding elsewhere in Hong Kong. We’re looking forward to sampling some of Blue Supreme’s food menu too. Featuring a selection of oft-overlooked regional U.S. dishes, the menu promises to constantly evolve, changing on a weekly basis and providing a perfect complement to the beer selection. If you’re looking for a beer and a bite but want something that’s a cut above the same old same old, Blue Supreme might just be the answer.
