Like most holidays around the world, Dragon Boat Festival, coming up this Thursday is a really an excuse to stuff your face, spurred from an age-old legend. To help celebrate the occasion with you, hotels and restaurants around Hong Kong are offering Michelin-rated rice dumplings, or Zhongzi. Here’s our pick of where to get them right this second.
Rosewood Hong Kong
The hotel at one of Hong Kong’s busiest districts, Tsim Sha Tsui, is offering guests two decadent dumplings on this Dragon Boat Festival. Try the Steamed Rice Dumpling with Abalone, Pork and Mushroom (HK$298) or the Steamed Sweet Rice Dumplings with Chestnut (HK$198). The dumplings are available for pre-order and redemption from 22-25 June at the Legacy House in the Rosewood Hotel. Reimagining the roaring 20’s with glitz and glamour, the Greater China Club’s dumpling set may be from this century but who says we can’t pretend! The restaurant is offering two types: The Superior Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Dred Yoshihama Abalone and Canopy and the Five Grain Rice Dumpling with Wild Mushrooms.
Summer Palace at Island Shangri-La
There’s never been a better time to try Summer Palace’s Michelin-rated sticky rice dumplings. Executive Chinese Chef Leung Yu King presents two sets of delectable treats: Sticky Rice Dumplings with Abalone, Canopy and Pork Belly (HK$368) and Sticky Rice Dumpling with 60-year old Dried Tangerine Peel and Red Beans (HK$288). Cantonese restaurant at the Cordis, Ming Court is offering its first-ever dumpling set. A twist on the classic festive flavour, the Ming Court Glutinous Rice Dumpling (HK$308 per peice) uses ingredients such as South-African abalone, Japanese conpoy, shiitake mushrooms, roasted duck meat, Jinhau ham and salted egg yolk.The restaurant also has its own speciality Ming Court Homemade XO sauce (HK$498) you can’t miss out on made with conpoy, dried shrimp, Jinhau ham and more.
