6 decadent pizzas we love right now
25 Apr 2019
A traditional margherita pizza with simple, fresh ingredients can be hard to beat, but we’ve rounded up six pizza places that push the limit with decadent and unique twists on the traditional Italian pie.
Spicy Sausage Pizza @Homeslice
A relative newcomer that is open till late, Homeslice promises perfectly cooked Neapolitan pizzas and glitzy cocktails (try the Personality Crisis, a sweet mix of gin, Aperol, sparkling rose, and a sprinkle of glitter). Its most decadent offering is the Spicy sausage pizza made with a house-fermented chilli. There’s also a secret pizza available, but you won’t find this one on the menu, instead it is written on the bathroom wall.
Mother of Pizzas
A pizza haunt with a loyal following, Mother of Pizzas remains its wholesome image. They're known for their fluffy 36-hour cold-fermented pizza dough as well as for their quality toppings. The Crazy Cheese is as decadent as it sounds, with generous portions of four different cheese atop. However their most decadent pizza is hands down the Summer of Love 1967 with toppings of mozzerella, san marzana tomato, capicolla, italian sausage, freshly sliced pineapples and chilli honey.
Lobster Pizza @Papi
Papi has been unrestrained when it comes to elevating the traditional Italian pizza menu, with the newest addition being the ultra-luxurious Lobster pizza that is generously topped with lobster, mozzarella, capers and roast onion. The selection of luxe Cicchetti (sharing plates) are also worth exploring, such as the Truffle bolognese mortadella papi-panino (sandwich).Bak Gwei Pizza @Alvy’s
Alvy’s is a contemporary pizzeria that doubles as a convivial craft beer bar. This neighbourhood favourite has the comforting atmosphere of a classic New York pizza joint, but its menu boasts local Hong Kong flavours. For a strong kick, try their Ma-La-Di-Da pizza, a fiery Sichuan rendition of a salumi pizza. The mountain of chilli peppers is not for the faint of heart, but the pizza surprisingly strikes a balance between spice and flavour. If spice is not your thing, try the Bak Gwei pizza featuring gruyere béchamel and char siu pork.
COLATURA DI ALICI @Motorino
Few places in Hong Kong do sourdough pizza better than Motorino. The delicious sourdough crust is fermented for 24 hours, and each pizza cooks in the wood-burning Ferrara open-fire brick oven in just 90 seconds. As for decadent ingredients, Motorino’s tried and true COLATURA DI ALICI includes the rich ingredients of fior di latte, bresaola, soppressata, cured and white anchovy.Carbonara Pizza @Amalfitana
Situated by Repulse Bay beach, the breezy vibe and artisanal menu at Amalfitana showcases its Amalfi Coast roots. The comfortingly simple choices of antipasti, pizza, dessert, and drinks (featuring key staples Limoncello and Negroni) hits all the right notes when you are looking for a bite after a day at the beach. Decadent choices include the Fiorentina pizza with a poached egg and the Carbonara pizza topped with pork cheek and pecorino.
