Breakfast recipes so easy you can make them in your microwave in 10 mins or less
26 May 2020
Now that schools and offices have mostly reopened, there is not enough time in the morning that could make any of us want to do any more quarantine cooking, especially when an extra five minutes of sleep is so much more preferred. Who has time to fuss over what to make and the dishes that’ll be left behind? For that reason, breakfast is often overlooked but the most important meal of the day can actually be simple and chore-free. In fact, these recipes can be made with just a microwave.
Quick fix: Oatmeal
Let’s be real: does anyone make oatmeal on the stovetop anymore? The microwave does a good job with an added bonus of not having to watch the stove while it cooks. Oats are the perfect choice for anyone who needs a hearty breakfast before heading out the door. Depending on you, you can also opt to make it as flavourful as preferred or keep it effortless.
These recipes only call for a few ingredients and a cook time of around five minutes. Seriously, it takes longer to get dressed some days. For a dairy-free alternative, the recipe suggests using water but your favourite plant-based milk will work just as well. Top it up with fresh berries and bananas to get your 5-a-day before noon.
Made easy: Mug Omelettes
While omelette dishes like omurice often fail at the first try and require practice, this one can be zapped into preparation. Working well if your fridge is stocked with produce like peppers, onions and shredded cheese, you can have the best parts of a savoury breakfast without the work of washing up. Toppings again can be switched up as desired but the base recipe only calls for two ingredients!
Easy no-bake: Mug Cakes
Requiring a few more ingredients this time, these sweet mug cake recipes are, regardless, still a lazy person’s dream compared to the effort any real baking requires. You can trick your body into thinking it’s having dessert for breakfast. We wouldn’t recommend thee everyday but for the old Friday treat here and there, why not have a cake, muffin or pancake made in a mug?
