5 romantic restaurants for vegetarians on Valentine’s day
Date Published : 01 Feb 2018

Valentine’s Day is a tough one for vegetarian eaters (and even harder for vegans). Atmospheric, ambient, with amazing vegan and vegetarian food isn’t the easiest thing to find. But that doesn’t mean you should have to eat in, or limit yourself to a choice of salads. Here are our recommendations for you - we'll look into interiors, ambience, the food, and the specials to find the best romantic restaurants for your vegetarian date this year.

12,000 Francs

12000 Francs has a bomb vegetarian menu for two. It’s a seven-course seasonal vegetarian sharing menu, rich with flavour but guilt-free in calories. The menu is perfectly suited for vegetarian couples looking for something fresh and romantic on V-day. The highlight of the menu for us were the roasted heirloom carrots. Tossed in a deliciously creamy almond sauce with a unique tart and umami touch of shio koji, the carrots along with much of the menu were sensational. So much so, we even put it as part of our 50 best dishes of 2017 last year. Here’s our review of the menu, but note that the menu changes seasonally.

Mak Mak

VEGETARIAN with vegan options
Contemporary Thai restaurant Mak Mak is a good spot for a vegetarian lunch date. Their separate vegetarian a-la-carte menu includes the usual Thai favorites of vegetarian pad thai, tofu phad hed and a variety of amazing warm salads. With both the original and vegetarian a-la-carte menus available, it’s a considerate choice for couples with only one partner committed to the vegetarian lifestyle. Check out our review of Mak Mak’s vegetarian menu here.

VEGETARIAN with vegan options

If you want to spice up your veg Valentine's Day, try out contemporary Indian hotspot Blacksalt in Sai Ying Pun. It’s tiny, in a charmingly intimate way, and it’s almost always booked (so book in advance). Half the menu is vegetarian, with vegan and gluten-free options, so it’s great to mix and match regardless of your eating preferences. Try out the Bangin’ Bharta, a smoked eggplant stew with rajma kidney bean vegan meatballs and mop it up with one of their wholesome rotis. Taking inspiration from Southeast Asian as well as European flavours, you can expect hearty food with bold unique flavours.

The Vegvolution Kitchen

The Vegvolution Kitchen is a vegan restaurant inspired by Italian cuisine. No need to limit yourself to just the salad with plenty of choices from pasta to risotto. Did we mention the pizza? Vegvolution Kitchen is one of the very few places serving pizza with vegan cheese, and we’ve heard the pizzas taste amazing!

If you can’t do dinner and forgot to get a bouquet of fresh blooms, OVOCAFÉ is the solution. Conjoined with OVO Garden for aesthetic and aromatic purposes, you can dine surrounded by nature. They do plenty of vegetarian meat so you can be sure that your taste buds won’t be bored and still stay healthy. You can even get your significant other that flower right in OVO Garden!
