This week we looked for a healthy lunch alternative to enjoy the Rugby Sevens during the day time. With a new lunch salad buffet launched at Frites, we found it the perfect spot for our day (it had huge screens to watch the Rugby Sevens too). For HK$98 you are given access to a colourful salad bar in a beautiful high-ceiling Causeway Bay venue.
There was a huge variety of salads, with a few mains, and a coffee/tea/dessert option with extra costs. The salad buffet is quite vegetarian-friendly, with only one or two of the salads containing meat (roast chicken salad and the Caesar salad). The "Super Protein Salad" with quinoa was an absolute must try, while it was quite simple, it was surprisingly refreshing, and the citrusy flavour was quite addictive. The Roast Chicken Frisee Salad with poached eggs, tomato, bacon and roquefort blue dressing was also one we refilled over and over.
We ordered the Chicken Piccata (HK$78) with lightly pan sauteed butterflied chicken thigh, butter, olive oil, lemon, wine and capers (served with steamed vegetables). And the Steak and Frites (HK$ 98) with truffle compote butter. The chicken was simple but glorious. Beautifully presented, the skin was very flavoursome. As for the steak, the strong flavour of the truffle compote was overwhelming for one of us, but an absolute delight to the other. The fries, "frites" in Belgian, was something we always look forward to when we come to Frites. Eat it the way Belgians do, with mayonnaise.
Overall, the new lunch buffet is a refreshing alternative for those who are looking for a healthy and variety-filled buffet at an off-street of Causeway Bay.
