Where to buy a Ugandan Rolex in Wong Chuk Hang

Usually, when someone invites us to buy a rolex from their 15th floor shop, we tend to decline. But this rolex isn’t a copywatch from Chungking Mansions, it’s a delicious Ugandan chapati filled with omelette, vegetables (and meat as an optional extra) and it comes from Africa Coffee & Tea in Wong Chuk Hang. Popularity among Ugandan university students helped to turn the rolex into a phenomenon in its home country, and now it has come to Hong Kong. Available styles include the ‘Titanic’, which uses two chapatis to accommodate extra filling.

We also sampled their sesame tofu chunks slathered in Ethiopian berbere sauce. Served with a light portion of coconut rice, it’s a perfect mix of spicy and sweet.

We have it on good authority that top Kenyan distance runners like to rehydrate with big cups of milky tea. At WOM Guide we’re always keen to improve our stamina, so we washed our feast down with a cup of Africa Coffee & Tea’s eponymous finest. There’s a range of single origin coffees and teas here; including a selection of South African rooibos, Kenyan and Malawian teas and coffees from Ethiopia, Cameroon, Uganda and more.

Africa Coffee & Tea also has an event space and a whole community outreach programme aimed at improving the lives of women living in the countries where their raw ingredients are produced. So we’ll definitely be hanging out here more often.
