The Sanma, otherwise known as the mackerel pike, is a fish synonymous with the autumn season among Japanese seafood lovers. Umai in Lai Chi Kok has been serving a special Sanma menu using fish direct from Hokkaido.

Umai’s head chef, Shimoji San, has put together a menu that shows-off the versatility of this little fish, including a range of sushi and sashimi dishes and a beautifully char-grilled version, all of which take advantage of the wonderfully aromatic taste of the sanma. Don't miss the sanma kamameshi (which literally translates as ‘kettle rice’) a traditional sanma dish prepared in a hot iron pot, where the rice is allowed to soak up all that lovely fishy flavour.

Umai has an izakaya bar vibe that’s perfect for a casual night out with friends. But the sanma menu is only available for another week, so catch it while you can!
