Aroy Aroy! @Slide on 79
Slide on 79 is a new sports bar/restaurant that opened on top of the many LKF stone steps, right across from Iron Fairies. There are over 12 different sliders to choose from, with over half of them vegetarian-friendly. We dropped by to try some of them and one, in particular, the fish-based Thai-inspired “Aroy Aroy!” caught our eye. The ‘Aroy Aroy!’ consists of a fish patty with minced fish, lemongrass & kaffir lime along with toppings of lettuce, onions, tomatoes and Thai sweet chili sauce. Initially we bought a couple of different sliders, and to be honest, some of these we could not differentiate from each other. But the ‘Aroy Aroy!’ was decidedly distinctive. At first bite, the flavours of lemongrass and kaffir limes are loud, but not overpowering. The fish patty is not potato-based so none like the British fishcakes you may imagine, but rather wholly minced fish mixed in with a bundle of spices. The sliders are just about the right size, and we’d like to say that two is enough, considering it's two for $79, but we’d very happily have at least six each. Knife for reference.
