It's that time of the year again. Time to pack your bags for the weekend and ship yourself away to the pirate treasure island of Cheung Chau to celebrate Cheung Chau's real treasure: the annual Cheung Chau Bun Festival.

The island will be covered with thousands of adorable white steamed buns with the chinese character for peace imprinted on top. Bun Towers, a vibrant parade and the Bun Tower Climbing competitions are just some of the events that unfold in the island each year. The island attracts over 20 thousand visitors each year who come especially to experience this lively event.

FOOD is of course a major reason to head to the Bun Festival. Come try the sweet paste filled buns that come in three different flavours of: lotus seed paste, red bean paste and sesame paste. Fair warning, you will find that many of the stalls will only be serving vegetarian options during these few days of celebration. This is to honour the Buddhist tradition of eating no meat, and while it is not followed by all food stalls in the area, it is a good chance to experience Cheung Chau Bun Festival exclusives.

Even Mcdonald's is serving up a veggie burger made with mushrooms during the Bun Festival, and this seems to be something only available in Cheung Chau.
