Hottest new restaurants to try in August

Here are the hottest and newest restaurants this August. For some odd reason, there seems to be a curious amount of new & trendy Japanese options this summer.

HAKU
HAKU, just opened in Harbour City, is serving up contemporary Japanese dishes with a European twist. Inviting guests into an immersive and unique Kappo-style dining experience, the concept was developed as a collaboration between 3-Michelin star restaurant Kashiwaya in Osaka and executive chef Agustin Balbi. HAKU’s kapp open-kitchen is designed to be interactive and theatrical, encouraging conversation between the chefs and the guests. The menu focuses on fresh seasonal ingredients such as their Japanese Tomatoes with kamasu and bellota ham and their chutoro with kristal caviar, polmard beef and rice tuile. Their mains include Kagoshima Wagyu with eringi and baby kabu and desserts include Miyazaki Mango with Hokkaido milk curd and citrus. All the dishes are served in fancy plates that add to the theatrical spirit of the place. Tsukada Nojo
Tsukada Nojo also just opened in Harbour City. It’s a new Japanese import serving up some rainbow-esque, health-conscious and delicate Kyushu cuisine. Kyushu cuisine is known for their rich history, eclectic cuisine, and abundance of unique vegetables. Tsukuda Nojo aims to bring the best of Kyushu in a healthy “well-being” packaging where guests can indulge in low-carb, low-sodium rainbow of flavours.  Their signature dish is the BIJIN nabe, “bijin” meaning a beautiful person, the chicken collagen pot is associated with beautifying skin and detoxing the body. Another notable dish is their DIY sushi set, a lunch set meal that consists of a selection of Kyushu-style small plates, rice, seaweed, miso-soup,  & sashimi that guests can ‘construct’ their own sushi with.  Some of these small plates include nanban chicken, avocado with seafood and tempura. KAGURA
KAGURA, a Michelin-recommended restaurant specialising in yakiniku and Hokkaido cuisine will launch its first Hong Kong branch at Elements, TST. KAGURA known for its use of Mirai beef, an exclusive high-quality beef, will be serving up exquisite farm-to-table cuisine made with fresh ingredients sourced from Hokkaido and from around the world. Bathers
Bathers is a new “Australian flair, British fare” beach restaurant that just opened in the south of Lantau island. Located at a beautiful beachside location, Bathers aims to recreate the Australian beach-dining experience with al fresco dining, friendly service and a seasonal menu from British gastropub chef Toby Barrett. Along with fun ‘surf’ cocktails such as their rum-laced Lantau slushie and several on-tap craft beers, they also have seafood platters, charcuterie, gourmet snacks to go with. Classic beach bites include beer-battered barracuda, salt & pepper squid and a variety of salads. Mains range from a selection of Australian grass-fed steaks, charred pork chop with crispy mustard potatoes and grilled lobster with bacon and gremolata. Iza
Named after the word “Izakaya” (Japanese-style gastro-bar with a relaxing vibe), Iza is a new venture by Mr Jin Suzuki (executive chef of Fujiyama Mama and HON10) that focuses on combining classic Japanese izakaya with contemporary gastro-bar vibes, where guests can immerse themselves in the comfort of fine food and drinks. Iza is offering a massive selection of skewers including Kumamoto pork, Kyushu chicken wings and wagyu beef. Other small dishes such as their Japanese chorizo & panko crusted soft boiled egg with truffle ponzu, and tuna tartare with crispy rice cracker will also be available. Rocksalt Japanese Restaurant
Rocksalt is a new Japanese restaurant celebrating the elegant taste of Himalayan rock salt. The clean and fresh taste of the rock salt not only keeps the seafood fresh but preserves the oceanic aroma of the seafood. Their signature Kamameshi is a Japanese kettle rice traditionally cooked with dashi broth. We recommend the Hokkaido Seafood Kamameshi, generously topped with unagi and assorted sashimi cuts, including salmon, crab claw sashimi, scallop, and sea urchin. The Old Man
Helmed by award winning bar team Agung Prabowo, James Tamang and Roman Ghale, The Old Man is a new Ernest Hemingway inspired cocktail bar, serving up inventive concoctions with an Asian twist. Opening in late July, experience the Hemingway of a tipple or two with a drinks menu paying tribute to the classic novella, The Old Man and the Sea -- Perhaps, you too will find here the biggest catch of your life. CHIC by The Oyster House
A new concept branch of The Oyster House, CHIC by The Oyster House brings the hottest sous vide trend to Hong Kong, following their concept of Chic Dining (to live slow in the busy city of Hong Kong through the pleasure of enjoying good food and wine). We recommend the truffle cheese Canadian pork knuckle, cooked sous vide for two hours, served with cep cream sauce.
