WOM Drinks: 10 Christmas drinks to warm your cockles
Date Published : 01 Dec 2017

December’s here and we’re only about to ramp up our Christmas coverage – this time, with the inaugural post of WOM Drinks!

For the first round of this new series, a guide to what to drink, we bring you Yuletide-inspired beverages to satiate your Instagram feed wintery cravings. From coffee-infused eggnog and mulled wine to hot chocolate and hot toddy, here’s a (growing) list of tipples to help you eke every drop out of the holiday season, in mugs and glasses both.

Something boozy

Mulled wine - and some pumpkin spice - at Lily & Bloom

It's the fourth year of Miracle on Ninth Street, the Christmas pop-up bar by Greg Boehm, Joanna Spiegel and Nico de Soto of Mace bar in New York, and Hong Kong gets to be the first city in Asia to participate - by way of Lily & Bloom. Together with 50 other locations around the world, the Lan Kwai Fong bar and restaurant will be decked out in Christmas touches, serving cocktails specially concocted for the occasion. At Lily & Bloom, these include mulled wine ('Bad Santa', with tawny port, orange liqueur, spices, golden raisins), pumpkin spiced rye whiskey ('You'll Shoot Your Rye Out', with Budweiser marshmallow syrup and egg), iced hot chocolate ('Run Run Rudolph', with Blanco tequila, coffee liqueur and Mexican spices) and 'Christmopolitan' (vodka, elderflower, dry vermouth, spiced cranberry sauce, rosemary, lime, absinthe mist). Enjoy it until the end of December.

Hot toddy at CÉ LA VI

Sip on this winter staple up on the rooftop while revelling in cold weather and views of the skyline. CÉ LA VI's toddy is made with Baron Otard VSOP, honey water, cinnamon syrup, hot water and apple juice. They're also serving hot buttered rum, made with Havana seven-year rum, butter and cinnamon syrup. Have it until 31 January, 2018.

Something apple-y at Limewood

Over at Limewood in Repulse Bay, a 'Candy n'Rye' cocktail offers warm apple whiffs and notes of Chrstimas - concocted with rye whiskey, apple Chutney, apple juice and Christmas spices. On offer through December.

Something chocolate-y at Blue Butcher & Meat Specialist

Banana eggnog at Red Sugar

It's perfect weather for al fresco dining, and few spots beat the views - and relative crowdless-ness - of Kerry Hotel's Red Sugar in Hung Hom. This winter, pair views of the skyline with holiday-inspired drinks, including banana eggnog (dark rum and homemade banana eggnog), mulled cider (apple cider, vanilla, spiced orange and pomegranate mix) and a Moscow Mule (cinnamon infused vodka, lime juice and homemade ginger beer).

Lavender eggnog at Fish & Meat

More eggnog could be enjoyed at this farm-to-table concept restaurant, this time with a boozy kick. Made with Diplomatico rum, El Candao sherry, egg and spiced syrup, Fish & Meat's Lavender Eggnog is available until the end of December.

Something...snow-y at Bibo

This Christmas, creativity is pushed up a notch at Bibo with a cocktail served in an ice mold: Frosty the Snowman, made with Beefeater 24 Gin, cream, yuzu, vanilla syrup and orange flower water. The less quirky (but equally festive) alternative is Rising of Pine, made with Nusa Cana, pine bud liqueur, lime juice, cinnamon syrup, pineapple juice and Ruinart Blanc de blanc Champagne. Served during Christmas week, from 24-31 December.

Something cozy

Mulled roselle at Teakha

Our favourite non-coffee cafe and chill out spot is giving us two reasons to sit outdoors with a mug to warm our palms: Merry Masala Chai (cooked with orange peel, cinnamon), and Mulled Roselle (mulled wine sans the alcohol; featuring Teakha's roselle tea, marigold, cinnamon, orange peel). They're also holding a popup at PMQ from 24-26 December, where they're serving two other specials: Marshmallow Chai (Teakha's masala chai with frothed milk, marshmallow, pink peppercorns) and Triple Mulled Roselle.

Coffee-infused eggnog at Filters Lane

Specialty coffee shop Filters Lane is serving a variety of Christmassy cocktails - including Caffe Eggnog, creamy milk punch infused with coffee. Sweet and chilled, with a kick of in-house cold brew coffee, it's an unusual but surprisingly good combination. First offered at a booth in Hysan Mall, Filters Lane will be serving the drinks at their Caine Road cafe until Sunday, 24 December.

Oreo and marshmallow mocha at Urban Coffee Roastery x C Dou

Unless things change (for good), cafe popup Urban Coffee Roastery on Pound Lane will be around until February to serve Sheung Wan denizens their fill of specialty coffee. This season, three additional beverages feature on the menu, available through the end of the month: Mallow Mocha (caramel, marshmallows and Oreo's), Jingle Berry (strawberry, candy, chocolate and cream) and Winter Sweetness (ginger, lemon and honey).
